On Tuesday the 8th May, the Secondary Department were ‘host’ to the ‘Infinite Jest’ theatre company, who performed a fantastic adapted version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare. We were also joined in the morning, by Green, Red and Yellow classes from Primary…so the Hall was buzzing with excitement! In the afternoon the Secondary Department groups took part in workshops, which was a new venture, but again very successful and enjoyable.
We have been visited by this ‘troupe’ of actors before and enjoyed ‘The Tempest’ and ‘Macbeth’, so we knew what to expect and we weren’t disappointed. The story was brought to life with puppets, music, quick changes, modern language and audience participation…plus some good old ‘Shakespearian’ language as well! For anybody in our audience that wasn’t that keen on Shakespeare before the performance started, we were all able to take away something positive. Nick Bottom even wanted to demolish our school at the start of the play…but changed his mind by the end! A great entertainment and enjoyed at all levels; ‘Infinite Jest’ would be welcome again at St Giles.
