Year 7 pupils at St Giles have profound, severe and moderate learning difficulties and are working significantly below their mainstream peers. Consequently, they do not achieve expected standards for End of Key Stage 2 and qualify for the Year 7 catch-up premium.
In 2017 this enabled the school to purchase Clicker 7, software which supports communication, choice making and writing through symbols. All teachers were trained in September 2017 and the software is being used successfully to support pupils across the ability range in Year 7 and across the school. This is part of a wider initiative in the school development plan to improve progress in writing.
